gung hay fat choy

The past weekend we celebrated Chinese New Year and visited my parents and grandparents at Woodlawn Memorial.  I reflected on the wonderful meals we shared to 'close' the old year and open the 'new' one.

My mother's mom (pau-pau) was an amazing cook. Each year there would be a bounty of traditional Chinese delicacies for the 2 week celebration- fried dumplings (both sweet + savory), monk's stew (jai), steamed taro cake (wu tow goh), and special candies like the jellies, sugar coated coconut + melon. Mmmmmm!

In honor of my grandmother, I'm posting a digital story I created several years ago, highlighting the all important greeting in every Chinese home- "Have you eaten yet?"
